NYPD Ends Muslim Spying Program

This week the NYPD announced it would end its controversial surveillance program, carried out by a squad called the Demographics Unit, which involved collecting information about the personal habits of Muslims living in the city. Following the announcement, New York City Police Commissioner William J. Bratton said:

“Now that this counterproductive program has been eliminated, the NYPD can get back to doing what it does best: stopping black people from shopping at Barneys.”
